"Lost" Body Count
            From the beginning the producers have said that there will be main characters who survive the crash only to die on the island later. I think they are doing this to avoid the old TV cliché where the main characters never die but the extras they interact with die (like the old "Star Trek" TV series where a main cast member would do down to the surface of a planet with a person wearing the Federation red shirt. The "red shirt" goes off by himself and winds up dead. It makes you want to say "stay with the main cast member- they never die").
            It also gives the show an element of surprise to the audience and to the actors who play the main characters.
            I also believe the plane crash wasn't someone's fault or mechanical failure. These survivors were brought to this island for a reason. When their purpose for being there is fullfilled, they die.
