With the abduction of Walt fresh on their minds and their raft destroyed, Michael, Sawyer and Jin fight for their lives in the middle of nowhere in the ocean. Locke encounters Desmond who seems rather concerned about entering a sequence of familiar numbers into a computer. We learn about Michael's 13 days gone from the castaways thru flashbacks and find that he was not entirely correct about what and whom he saw. The castaways have a funeral for Ana-Lucia and Libby. A drunk Desmond washes up on the beach in his boat unable to get away from the island when he left at the beginning of the season. Sayid has the idea to use Desmond's boat to scout out "The Others" camp. A drunken Desmond recalls the failures in his life- being jailed and dishonorably discharged for insorbination from the Royal Scotch Navy. He had hoped to be reunited with the love of his life, Penelope Widmore, and to be worthy to her father, Charles Widmore, after finishing boat race around the World that his company sponsored. Jack, Michael, Hurley, Sawyer and Kate begin their trek over to "The Others" camp by land and are intercepted by "The Others" before they reach their destination. The man formally known as Henry Gale is revealed as the leader (the so called "Him"). He allows Michael to leave with Walt on the boat (the same one that was used to abduct Walt at the end of last season) and Hurley to return to the castaway's camp with a warning to never come back ever. A fight between Locke and Eko about what will or will not happen if the button is pushed leads to Desmond helping Locke create another lockdown and Eko & Charlie trying to blow up the blast doors to get out before the clock turns 000:00. What happens when the button is not pushed shakes the entire island like an earthquake with purple light filling the sky. The fail safe for the island is a key Kelvin then Desmond have. What caused the Oceanic Airlines flight 815 plane to crash may have been caused by Desmond not entering the numbers before the clock reached 000:00. Desmond found the counter did set back to 108:00 but the magnetic discharge was enough to tear apart the Oceanic flight 815 plane above the Island.
